About KK Women’s and
Children’s Hospital

KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) provides specialised care for women, babies and children. One-third of all couples in Singapore choose to deliver their babies at KKH. KKH employs more than 3,000 employees in various positions. The turnover rate of KKH staff has decreased from 13.3 percent in 2006 to 12.2 percent in 2007, which is below both the industry and national average. Productivity remains consistently high at 98 percent. More than 950 employees have been with KKH for more than 10 years. Moreover, re-employment has been high in the past 3 years. This has allowed the Hospital to retain experienced staff and clinical knowledge, and is a testimony of the Hospital’s sound work-life policies.

KKH was awarded the Work-Life Achiever Award 2008.

Flexible Work Arrangements

Compressed Work Week, Part Time

KKH operates round the clock to provide patient care services. With the introduction of 12-hour shift patterns, patient care improves as staff care for the same group of patients for a longer duration with fewer handovers. The employees are happy because they are able to take days off in longer stretches to rest and spend time with family. There are 224 staff on a part-time programme.

Leave Benefits - Pro-Family Leave

Over and above the number of statutory leave, KKH provides marriage leave, maternity, paternity leave, childcare leave, family care leave as well as child adoption leave. Aside from the standard medical and hospitalisation leave, there is additional prolonged illness leave of up to 18 months to allow staff to recuperate from their illnesses.

Employee Support Schemes - Health Facilities and Benefits

KKH has assembled an in-house gymnasium which is open 24 hours, 7 days a week for employees. There is also a room for exercise classes and a multi-purpose court for basketball, netball and futsal. KKH conducts annual health screening which has seen increased staff participation over the years.

Pro-Family Benefits. The Hospital is thoughtful of employees’ families and provides a range of benefits like marriage gifts, maternity benefits, get-well gifts, gifts for newborn babies, and retirement gifts for staff retiring from active service. Medical benefits are extended to both staff and their dependants. KKH supports Eat with Your Family Day and actively encourages employees to leave the office early to have dinner with their family. KKH organises an annual Kiddies Day to allow employees to bring their children to the workplace that includes a tour, games and activities. Family Day is usually organised at interesting venues such as the Zoo or Sentosa.

KKH has a lactation room with 5 cubicles that are fully equipped including breast pumps and steam sterilizers, and provides additional support with lactation counselling by a lactation consultant.
