Block Leave refers to a period of time when most or all of the department / unit takes leave at the same time (as a "block"). Commonly, block leave time is allowed during the more commonly celebrated festive seasons, e.g. Christmas, Chinese New Year, etc. or during periods of economic downturn when business operations are sluggish, and there is an excess of manpower.
Block leave may also refer to an individual employee taking a large portion or all of his annual leave at one go (a “block” of time), and / or unpaid leave on top of the annual leave entitlement.
